The Grisaille Set of Three consists of 40ml tubes of Charcoal, Flake White & Graphite.

This set was designed for the beginning stages of painting or the ground work. Traditionally a grisaille is black & white blocks of shapes & values used at the beginning of your paintings or drawings. Basically your sketch or layout before applying color to your work. This technique was originally done with adding a ground pigment (usually a earth tone) to plaster in fresco paintings originating from the renaissance period in Italy. Also used dry, with vine charcoal or conte on paper or on canvas, again the beginning stage of ones work.

I thought what a great concept for painters, to take our dry chalky layouts & suspend them in the same vehicle our finished products will be in, oil. This will keep our layouts from smudging or mudding up our first application of paint on the canvas.
